 Awards and Prizes

In a global competition, a project on antimicrobial resistance by IIIT-Delhi won second place.

 

A project from the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) has won second prize in the Trinity Challenge’s competition on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

“OASIS: OneHealth Antimicrobial Stewardship for Informal Health Systems,” another project from India, also shared second place with IIIT-Delhi’s project.

The Trinity Challenge supports data-driven solutions to global health threats. Tavpritesh Sethi of IIIT-Delhi led the project “AMRSense: Empowering Communities with a Proactive One Health Ecosystem” in collaboration with CHRI-PATH, 1mg.com, and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Each second-place winner will receive £600,000 over the next three years and ongoing support for innovation and scaling.

AMRSense aims to engage, motivate, and train community health workers (CHWs) in AMR surveillance and management, despite challenges such as the lack of comprehensive data and analytics capabilities.

United Nations Public Service Day 2024: June 23

Every year on June 23, we celebrate United Nations Public Service Day. This day highlights the important role of public service in community development and welfare.

This year’s theme is “Fostering Innovation amid Global Challenges: a Public Sector Perspective.”

On December 20, 2002, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared June 23 as Public Service Day.

The United Nations Economic and Social Council created the United Nations Public Service Awards, which are given on this day. These awards recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to public service.

India announced that citizens of Bangladesh can now get medical e-visas.

India and Bangladesh signed 10 agreements covering defence, digital partnership, and maritime cooperation.
India will start a medical e-visa facility for Bangladeshi citizens.
A new Indian consulate will open in Rangpur, Bangladesh, to serve the northwestern region.
Agreements also include digital partnership, green partnership, space cooperation, railway connectivity, oceanography, defence, and strategic studies.
This is the first bilateral visit by a foreign leader since the new Indian government was formed.
A technical team will visit Bangladesh to review the Teesta River’s protection and management.
Bangladesh is key to India’s Neighbourhood First policy, Act East Policy, Vision SAGAR, and Indo-Pacific vision.
The sixth rail link between India and Bangladesh has opened, connecting Jakhoda and Agartala.
The Bharat-Bangladesh Maitri Satellite will strengthen relations between the two countries.
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina visited India for two days.

The Tajikistan government has passed a law banning hijabs and other traditional Islamic clothing.

 

1. Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament, Majlisi Milli, approved a law banning hijabs and other traditional Islamic clothing.
2. The bill was also passed by the lower chamber, Majlisi Namoyandagon.
3. Tajikistan has officially banned the hijab after years of unofficial restrictions.
4. The Tajik government began removing hijabs in 2007 when the Ministry of Education banned both Islamic attire and Western-style miniskirts for students.
5. In recent years, the Tajik government has promoted traditional Tajik clothing through a campaign.
