Gujarat bags award for highest wind power installed capacity

Gujarat won the “1st Rank” award for the highest wind power installed capacity at a ceremony in New Delhi, organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, surpassing Tamil Nadu.

Gujarat won an award at the “Pawan – Urja: Powering the Future of India” event, which was held in celebration of Global Wind Day on Saturday. Mamta Verma, Principal Secretary of the Energy and Petrochemicals Department, and Jai Prakash Shivahare, Managing Director of GUVNL, accepted the award for Gujarat.

As of the end of May 2024, Gujarat had an installed wind power capacity of 11,823 MW, followed by Tamil Nadu with 10,743 MW, and Karnataka in third place with 6,312 MW.

Gujarat ranks second in solar power with 14,182 MW installed, following Rajasthan with 22,180 MW. As of May 2024, Gujarat leads all states with a total renewable energy capacity of 28,200 MW.

The state aims to reach a cumulative 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, which could attract ₹5 lakh crore in investments and use about 4 lakh acres of land.
