Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace introduced the FWD-200B, India’s first homemade Bomber UAV.

Bengaluru-based Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace Technologies Pvt. Ltd. launched India’s first indigenous military bomber drones, the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) named FWD-200B.

This drone enhances national defense, reduces reliance on imports, and supports the Make in India initiative.

  • FWD-200B is a domestically designed and manufactured Medium-Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE) UCAV.
  • It can fly for 12-20 hours, reaching a maximum speed of 200 knots (370 km/h), with a ground control station (GCS) range of 200 km.

IFFCO has gotten FCO approval for Nano Zinc Liquid and Nano Copper Liquid fertilizers.

IFFCO has gained approval under the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO) to introduce IFFCO Nano Zinc (Liquid) and IFFCO Nano Copper (Liquid) fertilisers, aimed at addressing zinc and copper deficiencies in crops and enhancing agricultural productivity.

The Government of India has endorsed IFFCO Nano Zinc (Liquid) and IFFCO Nano Copper (Liquid) for a period of 3 years. Zinc and copper play vital roles as micronutrients in plant enzyme functions: zinc supports plant growth and development, while copper aids in chlorophyll production and seed formation.

These fertilisers will alleviate zinc and copper deficiencies in crops, leading to improved yield and quality, and tackling malnutrition issues. This launch expands IFFCO’s range of liquid fertiliser products based on nanotechnology to five, including IFFCO Nano Urea, Nano Di-Ammonia Phosphate (DAP), and Nano Urea Plus, now accessible to farmers.

The RBI has updated banks’ rules for T+1 settlement in the capital market.

  • On May 3, 2024, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) updated rules for custodian banks issuing Irrevocable Payment Commitments (IPCs) to align with the T+1 settlement system for stocks. Custodian banks’ maximum intraday risk when issuing IPCs will be limited to 30% of the settlement amount, counted as capital market exposure (CME).
  • On May 2, 2024, RBI removed restrictions on Bajaj Finance Limited’s Insta EMI Card and its e-commerce platform, eCOM.

SEBI introduces new rules for Stock Exchanges to oversee Registered Advisers and Investment Advisers.

On May 2, 2024, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) introduced a new framework for overseeing Research Analysts (RAs) and Investment Advisers (IAs). Recognized stock exchanges will now serve as RAASBs (Research Analyst Administration and Supervisory Bodies) and IAASBs (Investment Adviser Administration and Supervisory Bodies) to manage and supervise RAs and IAs respectively.

This framework is in line with the recent amendments made on April 26, 2024, through the ‘Securities Contracts (Regulation) (Stock Exchanges and Clearing Corporations) (Amendment) Regulations, 2024.’ Regulation 38A now allows recognized stock exchanges to carry out administration and supervision activities, subject to certain conditions. The new rules will come into effect on July 25, 2024.

SEBI’s authority to implement these regulations stems from Section 11(1) of the SEBI Act, 1992, along with regulation 14 of RA Regulations and IA Regulations. The aim is to safeguard investor interests and foster the growth of the securities market.

ADB agreed to provide $5 billion for ADF 14 and TASF 8.

HyImpulse, a German company, sent a candle wax-powered rocket on a test flight into space.

On May 3rd, 2024, the German private space company HyImpulse successfully test-launched a candle wax-powered rocket named “SR75” from a launch site in Koonibba, South Australia. This marked the first time a rocket carried commercial satellites on a test suborbital flight into space.

International Firefighters’ Day 2024, May 4

International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is celebrated worldwide on May 4 to recognize the bravery and commitment of firefighters in protecting communities and the environment.

IFFD also pays tribute to those who have lost their lives while serving as firefighters and expresses gratitude for the ongoing dedication of firefighting professionals.

May 4 is also known as St. Florian’s Day, named after St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters and a former Roman Army officer.

  • IFFD was established to honor the memory of five firefighters who tragically lost their lives battling a wildfire in Linton, Australia in 1998. The firefighters were Garry Vredeveldt, Chris Evans, Stuart Davidson, Jason Thomas, and Matthew Armstrong from Geelong West, Australia.
  • On January 4, 1999, JJ Edmondson, a volunteer Lieutenant and firefighter in Australia, proposed the idea of observing IFFD on May 4.
