The UN signed the first ‘High Seas Treaty’ to protect the vast areas of the ocean beyond countries’ borders. These areas make up almost two-thirds of the world’s oceans. It took a decade of discussions to reach this agreement, as previous talks couldn’t settle disagreements over funding and fishing rights. The last major ocean protection agreement, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, was signed in 1982, 40 years ago.

INS Trikand took part in the 2023 International Maritime Exercise

The Indian warship INS Trikand has arrived in Bahrain to take part in an International Maritime Exercise led by the US-led Combined Maritime Forces, a group of 34 nations. During the exercise, INS Trikand hosted Rear Admiral Jean Michel Martinet from the French Navy, who serves as the Vice Commander of IMX23 & Commander Task Force (East). The crew of INS Trikand also engaged with the planning team and ships from other friendly Navies involved in the Exercise.
