On World Environment Day, June 5, ISRO shared details about its collaboration with the French National Space Agency (CNES) on the upcoming TRISHNA mission.
TRISHNA, which stands for “Thermal Infrared Imaging Satellite for High-resolution Natural Resources Assessment,” is designed to monitor Earth’s surface temperature, emissivity, and other biophysical and radiative variables on a regional to global scale.
The mission aims to address water and food security challenges by focusing on the impacts of climate change and improving water management through evapotranspiration monitoring.
TRISHNA’s main goals are to closely monitor the energy and water budgets of land ecosystems to measure water stress and usage, and to provide high-resolution observations of water quality and dynamics in both coastal and inland waters.
Additionally, TRISHNA will help assess urban heat islands and detect thermal anomalies related to volcanic activity and geothermal resources.
On June 5, during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Ireland, Rohit Sharma hit his 600th six in international cricket. He also surpassed MS Dhoni as the T20 captain with the most wins for India. Dhoni led India to 41 wins in 73 T20Is (excluding Super Over wins), while Rohit achieved 42 wins in just 55 T20Is, with a win percentage of 77.29 compared to Dhoni’s 59.28. The Lok Sabha Secretariat is creating Prerana Sthal in the Parliament House Complex, where statues of notable leaders and freedom fighters will be placed. Previously, these statues were scattered around the Complex. Prerana Sthal is designed for easy viewing by visitors, with modern technology providing detailed information about each leader. These statues aim to inspire people with their lives and philosophies. After the new Parliament Building is completed, a plan is in place to beautify the Parliament Complex, which is overseen by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The National Company Law Tribunal in Chandigarh has approved the merger of Tata Sons-owned Air India with Vistara. Now, both airlines can combine their networks, staff, and fleets. This merger creates one of the world’s largest airline groups. Singapore Airlines will hold a 25.1% stake in Air India as part of the deal. The Competition Commission of India approved the merger in September 2023. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Sons Private Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited.
