  • On April 9th, Telugu-speaking communities worldwide celebrated Ugadi, the Telugu New Year festival, with traditional joy and excitement. This festival marks the beginning of the Hindu Lunar calendar and is observed in Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Ugadi falls on the first day of Chaitra, the initial month of the Hindu calendar. Both rural and urban areas in Telangana celebrate Sri ‘Shobhakrithu Nama Ugadi’ as per the Telugu calendar. Gudi Padwa, also known as Samvatsar Padvo, is the Marathi New Year celebrated by Maharashtrians and Konkanis across India. Gudi Padwa coincides with the start of Chaitra Navratri. This year, Maharashtra celebrated Gudi Padwa on April 9th, giving it special significance in the state.
  • On April 7, Russ Cook, an extreme marathon runner, finished his race across Africa after traveling through 16 countries over 352 days.
  • Starting in April 2023 from L’Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa, Mr. Cook ran to the west coast, covering over 16,000 kilometers.
