Mount Merapi in Indonesia erupts, spreading ash over nearby villages

Mount Merapi, a highly active volcano, erupted, releasing smoke and ash that blanketed nearby villages. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported no immediate casualties. Broadcasted images displayed ash-coated houses and roads in a Yogyakarta village near the volcano. The Merapi Volcano Observatory estimated the ash cloud reached 9,600 feet (3,000 meters) above the summit.

Siddhartha Mohanty appointed interim chairman of LIC by the Government of India

Starting March 14 for three months, Siddhartha Mohanty will serve as the interim chairman of the Life Insurance Company of India (LIC). He currently holds the position of managing director and CEO at LIC Housing Finance. On February 1, 2021, Mohanty will officially become the MD of LIC until his retirement on June 30, 2023. The current MDs of LIC are Bishnu Charan Patnaik, Ipe Mini, Siddhartha Mohanty, and Raj Kumar. Shri Mangalam Ramasubramanian Kumar is the chairman of the company.
