  • On March 12, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first railway siding project for Maruti Suzuki (MSIL) in Hansalpur, Gujarat. The project is part of PM Gati Shakti mission and involves an investment of Rs 976 crore, with contributions from the Gujarat government, Indian Railways, and MSIL. It aims to reduce truck trips by 50,000 annually, saving 35 million liters of fuel and cutting carbon emissions by 1,650 tonnes yearly. Bahucharaji Rail Corporation Limited (BRCL), a special-purpose vehicle, developed the project, with Gujarat Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation (GRIDE), Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), and MSIL as partners. Approval for the project was granted by G-RIDE in March 2017, and construction began in May 2020 after internal board approval from the company in January 2019.
  • On March 10, Justice Satyendra Kumar Singh became the new Lokayukta of Madhya Pradesh after taking the oath of office at Raj Bhavan. Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath as per the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Adhiniyam 1981. The Lokayukta, appointed under this law, serves as the top anti-corruption authority, empowered to probe complaints and allegations of corruption against government officials and parliamentarians. Maharashtra was the pioneer state to enact the Lokayukta bill.
  • Researchers in Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan National Park recently discovered a new scorpion species with eight eyes and legs. They studied three adult males and one adult female of this species. Named Euscorpiops Kranchan after the park, it shares many traits with the Euscorpiops subgenus. Scorpions in this group typically have small ranges and are found only in specific areas. Until this discovery, all scorpion species in Thailand were thought to be unique to their habitats.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande observed the ‘Bharat Shakti’ exercise, a demonstration of military tactics involving all three branches of the armed forces. The exercise lasted 50 minutes and took place at the Pokhran field firing range in Rajasthan. Various military equipment such as the LCA Tejas aircraft, ALH Mk-IV helicopter, Arjun main battle tank, K-9 Vajra howitzer, Dhanush and Sharang artillery guns, as well as the Pinaka rocket launcher system and drones, were showcased. This exercise was the first of its kind on such a large scale, highlighting India’s strength, innovation, and defense capabilities to the world.
