The IAF performed a ‘Bambi Bucket’ operation to tackle forest fires in Uttarakhand.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) collaborated with the Uttarakhand government to tackle forest fires in Nainital, Uttarakhand, using the Mi-17 V5 helicopter for Bambi Bucket operations.

During 23 sorties totaling 11.5 hours, the IAF deployed 44,600 liters of water to combat the mountain fires efficiently. Bambi Bucket, introduced in 1983 by Canadian Don Arney, revolutionized aerial firefighting, allowing helicopters to transport large water volumes beneath them to swiftly extinguish wildfires.
