  • Moody’s Ratings predicts India’s economy will grow by 6.6% in the financial year 2024-25, driven by strong credit demand boosting NBFC profitability. This growth rate is lower than the RBI’s projection of 7% for the same period.
  • For the next financial year 2025-26, Moody’s estimates India’s growth at 6.2%. In the October-December quarter of fiscal year 2023-24, India’s GDP surged by 8.4%, reinforcing its position as the fastest-growing major economy.
  • India’s economy expanded by 7.2% in 2022-23 and 8.7% in 2021-22. The IMF has also raised India’s growth forecast for 2024 to 6.8% from 6.5%.
  • Currently, India’s GDP ranks 5th globally, behind the US, China, Germany, and Japan, reaching approximately $3.7 trillion. In 2022, India overtook the UK in GDP size.
  • For the first time, the Indian Air Force has tested a portable hospital, the BHISHM Portable Cube, part of the “Project BHISHM” initiative (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita, and Maitri). This portable hospital is designed to be deployed quickly in emergencies, treating up to 200 casualties with comprehensive care.
  • Equipped with innovative tools, the Aid Cube enhances disaster response and medical assistance. It utilizes data analytics and AI for efficient management, real-time monitoring, and effective coordination of medical services.
  • The unit includes 72 components that are easily transportable by hand, bicycle, or drone, offering unmatched flexibility for deployment anywhere.
  • In the financial year ending March 2024, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) achieved a remarkable total profit of ₹1.4 lakh crore, marking a 35% increase over the previous year’s high base of ₹1 lakh crore. In the 2022-23 fiscal year, the combined net profit of 12 PSBs was ₹1,04,649 crore.
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) led the way, contributing over 40% of the total earnings with a profit of ₹61,077 crore, reflecting a 22% increase from the prior year. Punjab National Bank, based in Delhi, experienced the highest net profit growth in percentage terms, soaring by 228%. Union Bank of India followed with a 62% increase, and Central Bank of India saw a 61% rise. Additionally, Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra reported profit growths of 57% and 56%, respectively.
  • The government has bolstered the financial ecosystem through a comprehensive 4R strategy, which includes Recognising NPAs transparently, Resolution and Recovery, Recapitalising PSBs, and implementing Reforms.
  • Alice Munro, the first Canadian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, has passed away at 92 in Ontario. Celebrated for her complex and authentic short stories, Munro is one of Canada’s most esteemed writers. She received the Nobel Prize in 2013. Her final collection, “Dear Life,” showcases her masterful storytelling. Born on July 10, 1931, in Ontario, Munro dedicated herself to writing by the late 1960s.
