- The latest Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, released on March 15, shows that India’s foreign exchange reserves surged by $10.47 billion to reach $636.1 billion by the week ending March 8. This marks the largest increase since the week ending July 14, 2023. Previously, the reserves had risen by $6.55 billion to $625.63 billion by the week ending March 1, 2024. The weekly statistical supplement by the RBI indicates that foreign currency assets (FCA) grew by $8.12 billion to $562.35 billion. Gold reserves also increased by $2.3 billion to $50.72 billion, and Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) climbed by $31 million to $18.21 billion. Additionally, the reserve position at the IMF went up by $19 million to $4.82 billion. Generally, the RBI intervenes in the market, including through the sale of dollars, to manage liquidity and prevent a sharp depreciation of the rupee.
- On March 18th, Tamilisai Soundararajan resigned as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She made this sudden decision to focus on running in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. She submitted her resignation to the President of India. Soundararajan became Governor of Telangana in September 2019 and took on the additional role of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in February 2021. Before her political career, she worked as a gynecologist specializing in Sonology and fetal medicine. In 1999, she served as the South Chennai District Medical Wing Secretary in the BJP state unit.
- SIMA, the Scalable Instructable Multiworld Agent, is a new AI gaming system. It understands and acts on natural language commands in video games. SIMA represents a step forward in AI’s ability to work alongside humans. Unlike models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, SIMA is a versatile agent capable of various tasks. Think of it as a virtual assistant that tackles assigned challenges. Google worked with game developers to train SIMA across a range of video games. Collaborating with eight game studios, Google Deepmind tested SIMA on nine diverse video games.
