  • The Rajkot Nagrik Sahakari Bank has been fined Rs 43.30 lakh for not following RBI rules. These rules include not giving loans to directors or their relatives and not allowing certain organizations to open savings accounts.
  • Additionally, The Kangra Co-operative Bank (New Delhi), Rajdhani Nagar Co-operative Bank (Lucknow), and District Co-operative Bank, Garhwal (Kotdwar, Uttarakhand) have each been fined Rs 5 lakh by the RBI.
  • The District Cooperative Bank (Dehradun) has been fined Rs 2. In each case, the RBI stated that the penalty is because the banks didn’t comply with regulations, but it won’t affect the validity of transactions between the banks and their customers.
  • A recent survey shows that the Sindesar Khurd mine in Rajasthan, owned by Hindustan Zinc, has climbed to become the world’s second-largest silver-producing mine, moving up from fourth place last year. This growth is mainly due to increased ore production and better grades, leading to a 5% year-on-year rise in production. This solidifies Hindustan Zinc’s position as a major player in the global silver market. Hindustan Zinc, a company within the Vedanta Group, operates in zinc, lead, and silver industries. It is now the world’s third-largest silver producer and the second-largest integrated zinc producer. Headquartered in Udaipur, Hindustan Zinc holds a 75% market share in India’s zinc market, with mines and smelting complexes scattered throughout Rajasthan.
  • The UNFPA’s 2024 report estimates India’s population to reach 1.44 billion, with 24% aged 0-14 years. India’s population is projected to double in 77 years. 17% fall between 10-19 years, and 26% between 10-24 years. 7% are aged 65 and above, with men’s life expectancy at 71 years and women’s at 74 years. China ranks second with 1.425 billion people. In 2011, India’s population was 1.21 billion. Recent research on India’s 640 districts found nearly a third achieved the sustainable development goal of reducing maternal mortality ratio.
