  • Introduced in 2011 by the Customs Department, the AEO program was initially a pilot project aimed at improving the business environment. It has significantly streamlined export processes, leading to notable time and cost savings for exporters.
  • Aligned with the standards of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the AEO program seeks to secure and facilitate global trade. Its objective is to bolster supply chain security and ease the movement of legitimate goods.
  • Entities involved in international trade can qualify for AEO status by meeting Customs’ supply chain security standards. In return, they receive certain benefits.
  • India’s AEO program aligns with its commitments under Article 7.7 of the WTO TFA.
  • Among the 20 companies that applied for AEO status, Asian Star, a manufacturer of diamonds and diamond jewelry, became the first in the Indian gems and jewelry industry to be granted AEO certification.
  • Yuvraj, known for his iconic six sixes in an over during India’s victorious Men’s T20 World Cup 2007, is named one of the first ambassadors for the upcoming tournament. Notably, he’ll be involved in the India vs Pakistan match in New York on June 9.
