  • Over a decade, imports rose by over 20%, averaging a 7% yearly increase (from 54.3 million tonnes in FY23).
  • Russia’s supply hit multi-year highs at 6.4 million tonnes in FY24, a 200% increase from FY23 and a 300% increase over six years (from 2.3 mt in FY23 and 1.6 mt in FY19, respectively).
  • India remains one of the world’s leading importers of coking coal, importing between 47 and 54 million tonnes over the past decade.
  • Australia maintained its position as the primary coking coal supplier in FY24, accounting for 34.2 million tonnes, or 59%, of total shipments.
  • Six years ago, Australia accounted for 18% of coal exports, while Russia and the United States contributed 3% and 8%, respectively.

  • India’s overseas investment dropped by 39% to $28.64 billion in the year ending March 2024, as per RBI data. Outward foreign direct investment (FDI) totaled $46.96 billion in the year ending March 2023. Of the total overseas investment, $9.62 billion was through equity, contributing about 34% of the financial commitment in FY2024. Loan commitments decreased to $5.24 billion from $7.73 billion in FY2024. Indian companies issued overseas guarantees worth $14 billion, down from $20.09 billion in FY2023. The peak outward FDI in FY2024 was observed in March.
  • National Civil Service Day is celebrated annually on April 21 to honor the dedicated work of civil servants across departments and organizations, ensuring efficient administrative operations. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, post-Independence, coined civil servants as the backbone of India.
