Maryam Nawaz Makes History as First Woman Chief Minister of Punjab
Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Pakistan CM Nawaz Sharif, has been elected CM of Pakistan’s Punjab province. With this, Maryam Nawaz has created history because Maryam Nawaz is the first woman CM of Punjab. Maryam Nawaz got 220 votes and defeated Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Rana Aftab Ahmed. Sunni Ittehad Council members boycotted the voting, hence Rana Aftab Ahmed did not get any vote.
Maryam Nawaz won easily
According to numbers, it was certain that Maryam Nawaz would become the CM of Punjab. Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan had already made it clear that voting would be held only for the post of CM and no member of the assembly would be given a chance to speak. In the voting held after this, Maryam Nawaz won easily. Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony of members of Punjab Assembly took place, in which 321 out of 371 members took oath. Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N also won the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly. PML-N’s Malik Mohammad Ahmed Khan was elected speaker and got 224 votes. Whereas Malik Zaheer Chaner was elected Deputy Speaker, who got 220 votes.
Maryam Nawaz entered politics in 2012
Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif. Maryam Nawaz married Safdar Awan in the year 1992. Safdar Awan has been a captain in Pakistan Army. Safdar Awan was also the security officer of Nawaz Sharif. Maryam Nawaz has three children. Maryam Nawaz entered politics in 2012 and worked with her father. Maryam Nawaz has been elected for the first time to the National Assembly of Pakistan and Punjab Assembly in the general elections of 2024.
